About

The New Democracy Institute is an educational and research “action tank” dedicated to shepherding US democracy into the 21st century. It was established by Steven Hill, cofounder of FairVote and former director of the political reform program at New America. Mr. Hill is the author of a number of books on political democracy, economy and reform, including 10 Steps to Repair American Democracy: A More Perfect Union, Fixing Elections: The Failure of America’s Winner Take All Politics, and Reflecting All of Us/Whose Vote Counts (co-authored with Robert Richie from FairVote). Mr. Hill has over two decades of leadership in political reform campaigns, cross-partisan coalition-building, public education and outreach, research and solution-oriented policy formation. Mr. Hill has been a longtime spark plug for the national movement to enact ranked choice voting, proportional representation, public financing of campaigns and automatic/universal voter registration in the United States. He has mentored and advised reform efforts in numerous states and cities, and has a history of winning campaigns, via both ballot measures and legislative lobbying.
